What to Do Immediately After Buying a New Laptop

Buying a new laptop or notebook makes many of us feel like a kid at Halloween. However before you fire up that new computer there are three things you need to do RIGHT NOW (if you don't you'll never get around to doing it). Failure to do these there things account for the majority of our customer's computer laptop and notebook repair costs.

Doing these three things will save you both time and computer repair dollars in the future.

Step One

After you buy a new laptop plug it in and don't use it for at least 12 hours. Now you might be saying to yourself What the hell is that guy talking about? I want to start using it now!

By allowing for the laptop battery to fully charge, in the laptop even before it is turned on for the first time, allows for the battery to fully "season" thus enabling it to perform at peak condition. A properly charged battery will perform better and last long giving you better battery life and performance.

Step Two

Now that you have properly charged your laptop battery, and are using your computer for the first time, make a set of system backup disks. If your hard drive fails, and fail they do you now have the ability to restore your computer's operating system without having to pay a computer repair shop to do it for you.

Most major OEM computer manufactures offer some kind of backup tool within their system setups or programs These allows you to make restore disks in case your laptop or notebook hard drive fails.

While we create these disks as a service for our customers automatically, not many laptop and computer repair places do. If you don't know how to make a set of restore disks contact the shop you purchased the laptop through. If you bought it online, contact a local computer repair shop to take care of that for you. They should be able to make a set for you for a nominal fee.

Step Three

Send in that warranty registration card! It is crazy how many people do not follow up on these things. Failure to do so can result in higher computer repair fees later.

Some OEM computer manufactures have additional warranty coverage that extends beyond what is typically advertised. Others only honor a replacement or repair warranty after the item has been registered.

By filling out that warranty repair card and sending it in, or using the manufacture's online warranty registration tools you will be better covered should something happen to your computer down the road.
